Scan speed measured at 200 dpi. The scan rate is proportional across the full range of resolutions supported by the scanner. Actual scan times will depend on host system performance. Quoted top speeds may be limited by the effective bandwidth of the USB2 and are not guaranteed for all media types.

Ultra-compact digital camera units (DCUs)

At the core of SmartLF Gx, Colortrac has developed a revolutionary, ultra-compact digital CCD camera unit (DCU) that 're-writes the book' of wide format scanner design. Each DCU is a self-contained assembly with mirrors, 10,800 pixel quadri-linear CCD and micro lens with coated optics and IR filter. Approximately 6" x 7" x 1.5", the DCUs are capable of scanning images at 1200 (X) x 600 (Y) dpi optical resolution and capture 48-bit color or 16-bit pan-chromatic monochrome data. The modular DCUs allow Colortrac to build scanners of smaller size and footprint, low weight, very stable camera stitching alignment and lower cost.

So far so good, but the primary purpose of the SmartLF CCD imaging technology is to produce excellent images with as wide a color gamut and as high a dynamic range as possible. Color gamut determines how many different colors the scanner can capture accurately; dynamic range governs how much detail the scanner can see in dark areas before 'blacking out'.

Excellent color integrity and shadow detail

If you need to scan or copy photographic and graphic art type originals and you wish to achieve the best possible reproduction in terms of color integrity and shadow detail, then a Colortrac SmartLF Gx CCD scanner is a great choice. The Gx scanners will also capture monochrome or limited color technical documents accurately at fast speeds and high quality.

Excellent resolving power of fine image details

Practically all scanners carry two specifications for resolution, the maximum resolution supported and the optical, or true, resolution of the image sensors. Any resolution higher than the optical resolution relies on interpolation, a process that creates 'virtual' pixels based on the values of adjacent 'real' pixels. In other words, the scanner fabricates data that it doesn't actually see. Interpolation has its uses, for example in image smoothing and scaling-to-fit, but for fine detail capture there is no substitute for optical resolution, the higher the better. With its 1200 (X) x 600 (Y) dpi CCDs, SmartLF Gx offers exceptional resolving power for scanning fine image details in maps and CAD drawings.

Advanced Active Paper Transport (APT)

Most large format scanners use a spring-loaded paper hold-down strip to keep originals in contact with the scan glass and thereby in focus, stitch and adequately lit. If the pressure is too light, folded or crumpled documents scan poorly; if too heavy, delicate originals such as newsprint may get trapped and not scan at all. Instead, the Gx scanners use a driven hold-down roller to ensure consistent glass contact and reliable throughput of all types of media, from thin paper to the heaviest mylar. Access to the scan glass and hold-down roller for cleaning is quick and easy via the hinged APT assembly.

Wide Format Scanner Accessories

Floor Stand

The floor stand minimizes the installed footprint of your wide format scanner and positions the document feed at a comfortable and convenient height.

Catch basket for floor stand

The catch basket catches your scanned documents as they are ejected from the scanner and collects them in a "basket" under the scanner for recovery later. The catch basket requires the floor stand, above.

PC and flat screen mounting kit* for floor stand

The PC and flat screen mounting kit combines your wide format scanner and computer into a self-contained scan processing station that you can move around your office as required. The PC and flat screen mounting kit requires the floor stand, above. *PC and LCD not included.

Universal Repro Stand* (URS)

The URS is an alternative floor stand that holds your wide format scanner above most popular large format printers. It also holds a PC, flat screen and keyboard. The URS minimizes the combined footprint of your scanner and printer and creates a practical, high productivity workstation. The maximum height of the printer that can be accommodated under the URS is 49" (125 cm). There is no limit to the width of the printer. *PC and LCD not included.
